Hello Hunters!
I’m Arthur, a Game Designer for theHunter: Call of the Wild. In this Dev Diary, I’m going to talk about the exciting new weapons and equipment recently introduced in the Ambusher Pack DLC.
SWITCH UP YOUR HUNTING STRATEGY: ONE CALLER TO HUNT THEM ALL
Let’s start by sharing more details about the game-changing Quist Red Pro Electronic Caller. It is truly the centerpiece of the Ambusher Pack. This remotely controlled speaker can be placed down in the same way as decoys or stands. Once it is settled on the ground, a remote will be equipped in the player’s hand that can be used to select calls and play them.
CALLER LOGISTICS
Time to dig into the details of this unique piece of equipment.
- While the Electronic Caller is (understandably) a good deal larger and heavier compared to the other manual callers, the remote and the caller are displayed as a single item in your inventory for ease of use.
- Placed callers will remain in position on the Reserve until retrieved, even if you switch Reserves and return.
- Only one caller per player can be placed at a time in any given Reserve.
- Just like all of the existing callers, the Quist Red Pro Electronic Caller has an effective range of 200m.
- Additionally, the caller cannot be placed within 200m of another player’s caller.
- How the item appears in your hand – remote or caller – depends on whether or not the caller has already been placed on the map.
The Quist Red Pro Electronic Caller comes with an impressive bank of animal noises that allows a hunter to attract any species in the game that can be lured by other callers. As it turned out, even the American alligators cannot resist its call!
Being able to remotely activate it creates many new ways for you to hunt. You can lure an animal to a place where it is easier to shoot, while you hide in the perfect ambush spot a safe distance away.
We are really looking forward to seeing your creativity spiking while setting up the perfect ambushes with this new tool at your disposal!
WEAPONS WORTHY OF AN AMBUSHER
To round out the Ambusher Pack, we chose to introduce two new weapons that we think will synergize very well with the remote electronic caller.
The first one is a modern lever-action rifle chambered in .44 magnum. An updated take on an Old West classic, it differs from other lever-action rifles by its ability to mount modern optics. It packs a punch at short and medium ranges, making it a great choice to quickly dispatch a quarry that has been lured in by the remote caller.
The second new weapon is a takedown recurve bow. It can be used with or without a sight mounted, making it a great choice whether you prefer instinctive aiming or precision shooting. As with other bows, it can ethically dispatch any prey provided you use the right arrow type, which makes it a great choice to pair with a caller that can attract many different species.
As a takedown bow, it also takes up little inventory space, which compensates for the main drawback of the Electronic Caller.
Thank you for reading, and I hope you’ll enjoy playing with the Ambusher Pack as much as we enjoyed bringing it to the game!
Arthur, out.
